Transportation Options

You don't need a car.

You need options.

And you've got ‘em!

Need a tune?    The Bike Shop is an entirely student-operated bike repair and resource center. Located on the west side of the Putnam University Center, the Bike Shop teaches students how to keep their bikes in tip-top shape - at no cost.  With monthly Peddles and Pizza bike repair workshops, one-on-one help sessions, and many shop-sponsored cycling-related events, the Bike Shop is a bike owner's best friend.  No bike?  No problem! The Bike Shop offers a "Fleet Street" bike rental program.  To meet some of the bikes available for adoption, visit www.willamette.edu/dept/bikeshop.  Free bicycle registration and sticker at the Bike Shop or at the Campus Safety office.

Get zipped.       Students can enjoy the freedom of a car - without the hassle of bringing one to campus.  Zipcar, the nation's largest car-sharing program, has two cars parked right on the Willamette campus. Students can reserve a Zipcar by the hour for a quick trek to the grocery store or by the day for fun road trips to the coast. Gas, reserved parking, insurance and up to 180 miles are included with every reservation. For Zipcar membership information, visit www.zipcar.com/willamette.

All aboard!       Located directly across the street from the Willamette campus is Salem's historic Amtrak Train station.  With daily northbound service to Portland and Seattle and southbound service to Eugene, Amtrak provides a convenient transportation alternative.  Sit back and relax (or even study) as you make your way to your desired destination. For fare and train schedule information, visit www.amtrak.com.

Your Cherriot awaits.    Salem-Keizer Transit (Cherriots) provides bus service to just about anywhere a student needs to go.  Willamette is a regular stop, and campus is just a few short blocks from the main transit center.  Best of all, Willamette. Students get a 50% discount. For route and schedule information, visit www.cherriots.org.

Safe Ride.  Use your Willamette University student ID to pay for taxi services provided by Yellow Cab.

  • Call Yellow Cab at 503-362-2411. Tell the dispatcher you are using SafeRide.
  • Show the driver your valid Willamette ID card. The driver will enter your name and ID number on a SafeRide form.
  • When you arrive, fill in the total amount, sign, and return the form to the driver.
  • The Office of Campus Safety will pay Yellow Cab and bill your student account for the total.
