Summer Explorations 2014

Enrichment classes for children in grades 4-8. Students spend 15 hours - 5 days, 3 hours each day - with other curious, creative and intelligent students in small classes usually a 10:1 student: teacher ratio.

Summer 2014 Courses:

Math Circle – Explore mathematical games, solve puzzles and apply mathematical principles to everyday activities.  This is a class for the young person who loves mathematical riddles and puns!  As one participant explained:  'Math Circles is like a board game, there is no right answer, each decision changes the problem.'

Japanese Culture and Language – Learn about contemporary Japanese games, family life, holidays and school while practicing speaking and writing in Japanese.

Creative Writing – Write with interesting prompts and new techniques to develop your best ideas into stories.

Beginning Robotics – Design, build and program a robot to race, 'sumo' wrestle and play songs you compose.  Learn and use the Lego Mindstorms robots as well as learn computer programming.

Advanced Robotics – Engineer robots for specific environmental conditions.  Program more complex robotic movements. Design, build, program, test and revise your solutions.

Underwater Robotics – Explore advanced engineering and programming concepts while learning to build and program a remotely operated underwater vehicle.  Robots get wet; students do not. Underwater Robotics is offered Session 2 only and runs all day, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
