Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Dedicate New Law Building

As Willamette University College of Law celebrates its 125th anniversary, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will visit campus Sept. 12 to dedicate the Oregon Civic Justice Center and deliver the fall 2008 Atkinson Lecture.

Ginsburg will participate in the dedication of the Oregon Civic Justice Center at 11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. The center is located in the recently renovated Carnegie Building, at the corner of State and Winter streets, which once was Salem's first public library. The Oregon Civic Justice Center will house the Clinical Law Program; the Center for Law and Government; the Center for Religion, Law and Democracy; the Center for Dispute Resolution; the Willamette Law Review and the Oregon Law Commission.

Ginsburg will cut the ribbon at the dedication ceremony. Following the ceremony, the public is invited to view the renovated building during an open house with refreshments. Ginsburg will not participate in the open house.

At 5 p.m. in Smith Auditorium, President Lee Pelton and College of Law Dean Symeon Symeonides will award an honorary degree to Ginsburg, who will then deliver the Atkinson Lecture. This is a ticketed event for Willamette students, faculty, staff and alumni.
