Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Visit Campus and Lecture September 12, 2008

Willamette faculty, students and staff will have two opportunities Sept. 12 to see U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The justice will participate in the dedication of the College of Law's Oregon Civic Justice Center at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12. Located at the corner of State and Winter streets, the center is located inside the renovated Carnegie Building, Salem's first public library. The dedication will be followed by an open house, and the general public is invited to view the center and enjoy the refreshments. Justice Ginsburg will not attend the open house. Tickets are not required.

At 5 p.m. in Smith Auditorium, President Lee Pelton and College of Law Dean Symeon C. Symeonides will award an honorary degree to Justice Ginsburg, who will then deliver the fall 2008 Atkinson Lecture.

Atkinson Lecture tickets for all Willamette University students, faculty and staff become available Sept. 3 at the Information Desk in University Center. The first ticket is free with a Willamette ID; the second ticket is $25. There is a limit of two tickets per person and tickets are non-refundable.

On the day of the event, tickets will be available at the Information Desk until 3 p.m. After that time, all remaining tickets will be moved to the Will Call window in Smith Auditorium and will be available beginning at 4 p.m.

Smith Auditorium will open at 4 p.m. Seating in Smith is on a first come, first-served basis. Once Smith is full, ticketed guests will be directed to Hudson Hall for the closed-circuit simulcast. Again, tickets are non-refundable even if the ticket holder is asked to move to Hudson Hall.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 8, at 8 a.m. at University Center, remaining tickets will be available for purchase by Willamette alumni for $25 per ticket with a two-ticket per person limit.

The University has extended special consideration to law alumni because this Atkinson lecture is part of the 125th anniversary celebration of the College of Law and the dedication of the Carnegie Building/Oregon Civic Justice Center. We appreciate your cooperation regarding this ticket distribution plan.
