J.R. Tarabocchia is the assistant dean of recruitment and student activities at Willamette University College of Law, where he oversees recruitment, admissions, enrollment management, orientation, and student activities for the law school. A higher education professional since 2007, Tarabocchia is committed to students’ success and helping them achieve their goals.
Prior to joining Willamette in July 2015, Tarabocchia spent nearly a decade working at Portland State University in a variety of roles where he organized commencement, led the Student Ambassadors, founded a welcome center, wrote the student employment handbook, recruited undergraduate students, secured corporate sponsorships, and co-founded a community chorus.
Tarabocchia has presented extensively on how higher education professionals can partner with corporations to generate money for students and on the topic of how on-campus student employment can lead to higher student retention rates. He has also written on a variety of higher education topics from using social media in student engagement to hiring like a search firm (page 18). In 2014, Tarabocchia was nominated by his students and named as the supervisor of the year by the university.
