It is Time to Submit Your Health History and Immunization Record

The online portal for the Willamette University Bishop Health Center is now available!  Click here for access and directions about completing the online form.  The health and immunization form must be completed by all students who are new students at Willamette University.  The deadline to submit the form is August 10th.

If you need the measles immunization (MMR), you can get it on campus during Compass Week. The cost for the MMR vaccination is $62. Charges for vaccinations will be billed to your Willamette University student account.

Student Medical Insurance

All Willamette students students enrolled at least half-time are required to have medical insurance coverage comparable to the plan offered through Willamette's comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan. Students will automatically be enrolled in the Aetna insurance plan and charged through the student accounts office at the beginning of fall and spring semester. Coverage is for 12 months. Students who have other medical insurance that meets the criteria of comparable coverage may submit an online waiver request each academic year.  The process of health insurance purchase and waiver is different for U.S. student and International students.

omplete information about medical insurance coverage, costs, waiver procedures/policies, and the Aetna Plan Benefits Brochure for U.S. students is available at  http://www.willamette.edu/dept/health/insurance/domestic/index.html.  U.S. students with comparable coverage seeking to waive Willamette's insurance must complete the online waiver between July 20, 2015 and September 14, 2015. U.S. students work with the Bishop Health Center for all questions and processes related to purchasing health insurance.

International Students: Complete information about medical insurance coverage, costs, waiver procedures/policies, and the Aetna Plan Benefits Brochure for international students is available here. International students work with the Office of International Education for all questions and processes related to purchasing and waiving the health insurance policy, and should email oieadvising@willamette.edu with all questions about insurance or waiving insurance. All international students must complete this form regardless of whether you plan to enroll in the insurance program or waive the insurance plan between July 20, 2015 and September 4, 2015. 

Core Course Waiver Policies and Procedures For Early Career/ Career Change Students

Judy O'Neill will be evaluating the files of all incoming students for possible waivers of core courses by the August 12th and will email those who are eligible for a waiver based on an administrative decision. Important Reminders:

Arriving for Fall Semester:   School starts on August 18th!  Everyone must be here and ready to jump into the career-building and life-changing experience of the Willamette MBA. New students should plan to arrive in Salem between late July and August 14th so you have time to get settled and rested before school starts. Our Incoming Student Arrival Team will help new students get settled before school starts. Services include pick-up at the Portland Airport and assistance with locating an apartment in Salem after you arrive. This service is especially important for students traveling to Oregon from other states and countries.  Curtis Everetts is our Student Arrival Team Coordinator.  You can reach Curtis at mba-arrivals@willamette.edu.   If you would like to use the airport transportation service of the Incoming Student Arrival Team, be sure to submit the Arrival Information Form by August 7th. 

Planning for Compass Week: Compass Week is the first week of school and is required for all new MBA students. Compass Week 2015 runs from August 18th through August 21st. It will include important academic, professional and social activities. Different events and activities require different clothing. To help you plan your packing needs, here is your guide to appropriate dress for the activities of Compass Week.

Business Formal: Business formal attire typically means a jacket for both men and women. A tie for men, button-down shirt, matching slacks and dress shoes. For women, business attire would typically mean a skirt or slacks, jacket, button-down shirt or shell with clear or solid color nylons and dress shoes. For Compass Week, be sure your shoes are comfortable for walking.

Business Casual: Business casual typically means men and women can leave the jacket, tie and nylons at home. Men can wear polo or golf shirts and slacks. Women can wear slacks or skirt and a professional looking shirt. When dressing for "Business Casual," avoid sweat suits, jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes and flip-flops.

Housing
: Most Willamette MBA students live off-campus. For a Google map and student recommendations for off campus living click here. This map was updated in May of 2015.
If you would like to live on campus, housing is available at the Willamette University Apartments.  Email the Willamette University Residence Life office at housing@willamette.edu for information or to reserve a University Apartment.  More information about off-campus and on-campus housing is available on the admitted student housing page.  Other good resources for information include the Statesman Journal (Classified Ad) and Craigslist.  Remember to use you Arrival Team for advice. Textbook List For Fall Semester Core Courses All fall semester core course text books are now listed on the textbooks web page. we know about so far.  We provide the textbook list so you can purchase your books online before school starts, if you would like to do so. All text books will be available for purchase at The Willamette Store.

:  Fall Semester 2015 begins on Tuesday, August 18th, with Compass Week. Compass Week is a very important week and is required for all new students. We will also have a special optional pre-session event on Friday, August 14th called "Living and Learning in Salem."

Registration for Fall Semester Courses
Willamette MBA registration is a very simple process, so don't worry. First year students will automatically be pre-registered for the entire first-semester core curriculum (5 courses, 15 semester credits).  The five courses are:

GSM 5103: Data Analysis, Modeling & Decision Making (lecture plus a lab section)
GSM 5104: Managing Organizations
GSM 5105: Accounting for Managers
GSM 5107: Marketing: Creating Satisfied Customers
GSM 5108: Practical Application for Careers & Enterprises (PACE I)

Sections will be assigned to ensure demographic, academic and experiential balance in all sections. Judy O'Neill, Associate Dean and Director of Admission, will contact students who have special registration options.

As a guideline, the general class schedule for most first-year Willamette MBA students is shown below. Remember, that as a Willamette MBA student you will be involved in many meetings and sessions outside of class (experiential learning, client projects, career management services, professional organizations, etc.). You will be busy with the MBA program (classes, studying, meetings, events, organizations, etc.) approximately 50 hours per week.

Your schedule of courses will include the following times and courses.

Monday/Wednesday: 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. GSM 5104: Managing Organizations or GSM 5108: PACE I
Monday/Wednesday: 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. The course you did not have at 2:00 p.m.
Monday: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. GSM 5103: Data Analysis, Modeling & Decision Making Lecture
Tuesday/Thursday:  8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. GSM 5105: Accounting or GSM 5107: Marketing
Tuesday/Thursday: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon The course you did not have at 8:30 a.m.

You will also be registered for one section of Data Analysis Lab. Your lab section will meet once a week. Lab sections are scheduled for:
Tuesday: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.


Willamette University Bishop Wellness Center
:  
The Bishop Wellness Center provides Health Services, Counseling Services, and Disability and Learning Services to our students. There is no office visit charge to students; fees are charged for lab work, prescriptions and some supplies. Students are seen by appointment, but urgent problems will be seen immediately.
