1) Ask your internship supervisor and/or recruiter for a job! If you like what you're doing and you want to stay long-term, ask your boss about staying another semester for 2 credits or another school year (3 credits for both semesters). Ask about long-term job prospects—“I’d really like to work here after graduation, if possible. What is the best way to follow up regarding future prospects?”
2) GRADLeaders profile & resume: Update your interests in your Profile and upload your new resume. NOTE: Resume book deadline is September 2nd with a release date of September 15th to employers. We're actively reviewing resumes now for that release. Turn it in early!
3) If you received a job offer: Be sure to let us know and complete the MBA Graduate Survey on Gradleaders.
4) Prepare for informationals with first-year students: If you checked "yes" on Internwatch to share where you are working, then you're already on the list that we're giving to first-years. If you checked "no" or "maybe," then you're not on the list. If you would like to participate and are not sure what you checked, email Beth to get on the list.
5) Schedule your Early Access Appointment: Login to GradLeader (formerly MBAFocus) and schedule an appointment now. We're eager to hear about your summer and help you plan your career search this year. If you're not finding a time that works, contact Holly at 503-370-6167.
6) Mentorship Applications Due Monday, July 9: Apply using the online Mentorship Application. NOTE: Priority will go to graduating students who did not have the opportunity to participate in 2017-2018. You must have a one-on-one meeting with Beth during the summer via phone, Skype or in-person.
7) CONSIDER Fall Recruiting: If you're interested in consulting, public accounting, the Federal Government or working for the fortune 500, this is the only way in. These organizations hire X number of MBAs in the fall and stop recruiting when they reach their desired number. We make introductions and send your resume out. We need to know ASAP if you're interested in fall recruiting so we can make sure you're in the loop.
8) RSVP for the Career Close-up in Portland: This session is specifically geared to help you prepare for recruiting and make connections. NOTE: This is our BIGGEST spring event! As a second year, you can sign up for one-on-ones with the employers.
9) Revisit your Career Action Plan: After a summer of full-time work, its time to re-evaluate your strengths, interests and goals for your permanent position. Check in with Beth or Sarah.
10) CONSIDER National Career Fairs: Do this especially if you're willing to relocate and want to work for a large company. NSHMBA, NBMBA, NAWMBA, NAAMBA, and Reaching Out are all this fall and have employers interviewing on-site. There are 20 $500 scholarships available for full-time 2nd-year day students to help with expenses. 11) CONSIDER Willamette MBA Study Abroad: Find out more about Study Abroad in India and China. Applications are due September 15th. Most of your jobs will involve something international. Consider attending both!
