Four Willamette Alumni Among ‘Forty Under 40’
The Portland Business Journal honored four Willamette alumni with "Forty Under 40" awards Thursday night at a reception in Portland's Pearl District.
Dina Alexander JD'96, Tatiana Perry JD'00, MBA'00, Tobias Read '97 and Jon Thomsen '92 were among the high-caliber executives younger than 40 to be honored for character and achievement in their careers, engagement in civic activities, volunteerism in the community and genuine passion for what they do.
Community involvement is important to Read, a politics and economics graduate who is a kids footwear developer at Nike and State Representative for District 27 in Beaverton. "Good communities don't simply happen," says Read, the deputy majority whip. "Good communities require engagement. They happen when people become involved."
Alexander is a partner at Ball Janik LLP in Portland, where she practices real estate and construction law. She played a leading role representing the developers of South Waterfront, a $2 billion public/private project in Portland, and she has worked on public/private partnership matters in California and Arizona.
Perry is a partner at Tonkon Torp LLP in Portland. She emphasizes securities and corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions of private and public companies. She is a director and officer of the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, a nonprofit organization that provides entrepreneurs access to the networks of business professionals and investors.
Thomsen is president and CEO of Ecos, a consulting company that helps businesses become more sustainable, efficient and carbon-neutral. The economics major managed the launch of the Business Solutions division of Ecos, focusing on environmental sustainability advisory and carbon mitigation activities, and he has held senior executive positions at successful startup organizations and at Fortune 500 corporations.
