Willamette Academy celebrates class of 2010
Willamette Academy, Willamette University's college access program for underrepresented middle- and high-school students, will celebrate its fourth graduating class Thursday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. in Hudson Hall at the Mary Stuart Rogers Music Center.
Seventeen students make up the academy's class of 2010. All of them are expected to enroll in college in the fall, including four who plan to attend Willamette. Their other colleges will include Western Oregon University, Linfield College and Chemeketa Community College.
Willamette Academy is a supplemental education program for economically disadvantaged and underrepresented students from the Salem-Keizer School District.
Through academic instruction, ongoing mentoring and tutoring, and experiential service-learning projects in the community, the academy helps students become the first in their families to graduate from a college or university. The ceremony is open to the public and will be followed by a reception in Rogers.
