Beethoven Sonata Cycle features world-renowned performers

Willamette University presents a concert exploring the sonatas of Beethoven on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Hudson Hall within Rogers Music Center.

The performance will feature renowned violinist Anthea Kreston and cellist Jason Duckles from the Amelia Piano Trio, along with pianist Cary Lewis from the Lanier Trio.

A complete survey of Beethoven's violin and cello sonatas — a 15-work series — is a way to get to know the brilliance of Beethoven from his early to late periods. The 10 violin sonatas hail from a relatively short period in Beethoven's life — the first nine were composed within six years, and the final sonata nearly a decade later. The five cello sonatas were written both before and after the violin sonatas.

Kreston, Duckles and Lewis have been exploring the complete sonatas of Beethoven, and together they are presenting this series in a variety of venues in the Pacific Northwest. They have presented concerts throughout the world, and have performed with Yo-Yo Ma and members of the Emerson Quartet.
