University Chamber Orchestra presents fall concert

The University Chamber Orchestra, directed by Willamette professor and noted cellist Hekun Wu, will present its fall concert on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Hudson Hall within Rogers Music Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The program includes "Five Pieces for String Orchestra" by Estonian composer Heino Eller and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major.

Two Willamette students — chemistry major Heather Shohet '11 and English major Kali Bonife '12 — will also present Bach's Concerto for Two Violins.

Beethoven's 4th Symphony is the least-known of his nine symphonies, but Robert Schumann commented that it should not be overshadowed by the popular 3rd ("Eroica") and 5th Symphonies. He noted that the 4th is "a slender Greek maiden standing between two Norse giants."
