President Steve Thorsett announced the appointment of Michael Beseda as Vice President of Enrollment and University Communications. Beseda will begin at Willamette in June.
Currently Vice President for College Communications and Vice Provost for Enrollment at Saint Mary's College of California, Beseda will succeed Jim Sumner, who has served as Interim Vice President of Enrollment while Willamette conducted a national search.
In addition to spearheading the effort that resulted in the Saint Mary's inclusion in “Colleges That Change Lives” – a recognition that Willamette University shares – Beseda oversaw the creation of Saint Mary's first integrated marketing plan, established its first offices of institutional research and college communications, created the college's first technology plan and led the effort to revamp the university’s web presence.
“With more than three decades of experience in admissions, marketing, planning, and teaching, Michael’s broad skill set is ideal for Willamette,” Thorsett said.
Beseda graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s from Saint Mary's College. He earned his master’s in literature at San Francisco State University before completing graduate coursework in higher education policy at U.C. Berkeley.
