On Sunday, May 12, 2013, the College of Law awarded 125 juris doctor degrees and four LL.M’s – including the first-ever LL.M in Dispute Resolution -- at the school’s 127th commencement and hooding ceremony. In addition to graduating the Class of 2013, the college honored three longtime professors who retired this year.
The commencement speaker was Willamette’s Distinguished Jurist-in-Residence Paul J. De Muniz JD’75. De Muniz retired last year as chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. He hears cases in the Oregon Court of Appeals as part of his retirement and teaches a judicial writing class in which his students help draft Court of Appeals opinions. De Muniz also leads a work group of the Oregon Law Commission, housed at the law school. The group is evaluating alternatives to the current system of electing appellate judges.
The university bestowed the title of “Emeritus Professor” on the three retired law professors: Kathy Graham, formerly an associate dean; Rich Hagedorn, and Dean Richardson.
