Biography

Christine Shanaberger became Assistant Provost of Academic Planning and Accreditation in June 2022. Prior to that, she served as the Assistant to the Provost for Cross University Programs (2020-2022), and as Director of Institutional Grants and Strategic Funding Initiatives (2014-2020).

In her capacity as Assistant Provost, Christine collaborates with colleagues across Willamette to facilitate integration around University-level academic planning, accreditation, and policies. She is charged with coordinating across the University's academic and operational units to incorporate measurable academic components into Willamette’s Strategic Plan; working with University stakeholders to develop programs that enhance student learning and attract new student audiences—including developing and shepherding processes for cross-university academic programs, co-curricular centers, and non-degree programs; and working to ensure alignment between cross-university academic, fiscal, and facilities policy and planning. Christine also oversees the Office of Grants and Strategic Initiatives and serves as Willamette’s Accreditation Liaison Officer.

Prior to joining the Willamette community, Christine worked at Gettysburg College, where she was an Assistant Director in the grants office, an Associate Director of Communications, and the Coordinator of Presidential Communications. She also served as a College Adviser for the College Advising Corps, where she supported low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented Pennsylvania students on their path to a postsecondary education.

A first-generation college student hailing from Morgantown, West Virginia, Christine earned her B.A. in Religious Studies from Franklin & Marshall College and a M.A. in History of Religions from Syracuse University. She was also a member of Willamette’s first cohort of graduate data science students, and earned her Certificate in Data Science in 2022.
