To fulfill its responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment for all community members, Willamette University, by action of the President, a Dean, or their designee, may on an interim basis, immediately restrict a student’s access to campus facilities, programs, and services. The University may immediately remove or restrict a student’s access to campus facilities, programs, and services, if:
- The presence or activities of the student poses a threat to the safety of a member(s) of the Willamette University community;
- The totality of circumstances around the student’s behavior causes a significant disruption, obstruction or material interference with any service or activity provided or sponsored by the university.
This includes, but is not limited to behaviors that:
- So incite the student body as to create a clear and present danger of:
a) the commission unlawful acts on or off school premises, or
b) a violation of school policies
- Cause a material and substantial disruption of the orderly operation of the school.
This action will take effect immediately upon notice to the student. Any student subject to restriction of access may appeal the action, but only after complying with the restriction. Appeals must be made in writing within 48 hours of receipt of the restriction order, and should include a description of the events leading to the order and the reasons the student feels the order should be modified or lifted.
Appeals should be submitted to the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, located in the University Center. If the Vice President for Student Affairs issued the order in question, the president will appoint a different dean or vice president to review the appeal. Results of the review will be communicated within two business days of receipt. The decision rendered in an appeal review is final.
