OVERVIEW
Willamette University offers an HMO medical insurance plan through Kaiser Permanente. With this plan, you must receive all of your care through the Kaiser system of participating physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. Kaiser offers five hospitals and 44 medical offices and other outpatient facilities in the Northwest region to choose from. Some centers serve as after-hours care centers, where participants with urgent medical problems may be seen when regular medical centers are closed. To participate in this plan, you must live in one of the zip code service areas served by this HMO. Most services are covered at 100% after you pay your required copayment which will help you to have clear upfront costs. Prescription Benefits: When enrolling in the Kaiser HMO, you automatically receive prescription drug coverage. Prescription co-pay costs are based on a tiered system of generic, preferred, and non-preferred prescriptions. To save money, request that your doctor write your prescriptions for “generic” drugs, which are often the therapeutic equivalent to their brand-name counterparts, but cost significantly less.
Vision Benefits: Your vision care coverage will pay for one eye exam every 12 months and provides an allowance for eyeglass lenses and frames, or contact lenses.
Alternative Care: For your convenience, no referral is required to access acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathic, and massage therapy alternative benefits. You are free to choose from more than 700 qualified and credentialed complementary and alternative medicine providers.
