"Nā Moʻolelo, Myths and Legends of Hawaiʻi"

The strories from our ancestors

Hawaiian culture is filled with tales of passion, loyalty, love, betrayal, birth, and death. Hawaiian mythology tells us stories about everything from gods and people to ghosts and nature. Hawaiians explained everything through stories, from how our world was created, to the heavens in the sky and the lava flowing to the ocean. These myths and legends are passed down in the form of oli and hula (chant and dance), keeping cultural tradition alive from generation to generation.
