Interests and Hobbies

I'm involved in student government, social justice, photography, videography, and playing/making music on campus. I also absolutely love the outdoors and when you combine the outdoors with people I love and photography or video, wow, my life is made.

Favorite Class at WU

Professor James Miley (Music) is one of the most amazing professors at the university who is willing to talk to you about music or just life for hours. Either that or Josh Laison in the mathematics department because he is so into his subject, and it's infectious even if you can't stand math like me.

Favorite Event at WU

Willamette University is great for photos with all of the nature, wildlife, and aesthetically pleasing brick builds on campus. Taking photos of people is just so fun for me; capturing candid moments that bring a smile to my and others' faces.

Favorite Restaurant in Salem

503 Sushi is great food for a ridiculously low cost!

Fun Facts

I tease people to a ridiculous amount and consider myself a person who all around loves people. As I mentioned before I love the outdoors and one of my favorite moments was summiting a mountain 300 miles away from the nearest town and hospital by myself in the Brooks Mountain Range of Alaska. I'm also one of those people who is always doing something and can't stay still, usually taking photos to be honest.

Quote or Words O' Wisdom

Start out small and then get more involved when you know that you can handle more. That's what everyone will tell you, but let's be honest, no one listens to it and it turns into a great learning experience for us all. Here is something that you should listen to though no matter what: treat yourself right and care for yourself! You're more important than your grades, responsibilities, and the drama that naturally happens in life. Take times daily (if possible) or at the least weekly where you can do something that you love to do and just relax.

Quote or Words O' Wisdom

Take the time to find what you like and discover who you are. Find that community that will take you in and make the best out of your four years. They go by really fast, so enjoy the highs and lows of college.

Interests and Hobbies

I am passionate about water and our connections to it. I love music--listening to stuff I know, or used to know, and finding new stuff to get into. I enjoy reading by choice (not for class) and driving, especially alone because that's when I can listen to whatever I want to listen to. My favorite thing to do is either watch the sunset or look at the stars at home, where the land is open.

Favorite Class at WU

So far, my favorite class is Political Ecology taught by Professor Butterworth. Among the professors who have helped me grow the most are Professor Dobkins, Professor Pérez, and Professor Niño. They have taught me things about the world and myself that have further grounded the way in which I think and go about life.

Favorite Event at WU

It's a tie between tutoring at Chemawa through the Chemawa Indian School Partnership Program and the Native and Indigenous Student Union's Annual Social Powwow.

Favorite Restaurant in Salem

I always go back to Wing Stop because I like the one here way more than the one at home.

Fun Facts

I am Diné (Navajo) from the Navajo Nation, which I would argue is the most beautiful place in the world. I love being surrounded by mountains and mesas and being able to see the horizon. I am a leader of the Native and Indigenous Student Union. This summer, I'll be working on a collaborative research project on Willamette's history and Native/Indigenous alumni. My favorite band right now is Night Riots and I'm really hoping I'll see them live this summer.

Quote or Words O' Wisdom

Don't be afraid to speak up in class (or in any space really)--especially if folks are missing or overlooking something that is important to you. Folks may look at you like you're dumb and crazy, and that might make you feel like you are, but you'll come to find that you and your thoughts are valid and what you have said is meaningful. Let your thoughts, ideas, and dreams exist somewhere outside of your head. I promise that it is liberating, especially in a space like Willamette.
