Because of the negative health consequences of smoking — including the effects of secondhand smoke — Willamette University will become a smoke-free campus as of Jan. 1, 2016.
In response to campus-wide concern about secondhand smoke and the negative health effects of smoking, the Tobacco Free Initiative Committee developed a report and recommendation to make Willamette University smoke-free. The Smoke-Free Campus policy was adopted and approved by the president.
Decreasing the prevalence of smoking and tobacco use on campus (including e-cigarettes) will improve the health and well being of the greater campus community. Willamette University takes seriously its responsibility to support a generation making positive and healthy choices.
