Apple Mail Setup

These instructions are for Apple Mail.

IMPORTANT: If you had setup Apple Mail for the old Willamette mail server, do not try to modify your existing account setup. Remove your old Willamette account and create a new account in Apple Mail as outlined below. If you have not setup an account in Apple Mail prior to this, you can skip to step 4, where you will be prompted to create a new account. One known issue: Apple Mail setup will not proceed without attempting to connect automatically to the Google Mail server after you complete step 4; this may take several seconds. It never works, but it will take you to step 5, where you can continue with the manual setup.

New Account Setup

  1. Open Apple Mail
  2. Click Preferences
  3. Click + in the lower left hand corner
  4. On the Welcome to Mail Screen:
    1. Enter your Full Name
    2. Enter your Willamette E-mail address:
    3. Click Continue
  5. On the Incoming Mail Server screen:
    1. Select IMAP as the Account Type
    2. Enter a description, which can be anything you want. For example: "Willamette E-Mail"
    3. In the Incoming Mail Server box, enter:
    4. In the User Name box, add to the username (be sure to enter your entire email address)
    5. Click Continue
  6. On the Outgoing Mail Server screen:
    1. Enter a Description, which can be anything you want. For example: "Willamette Outgoing E-Mail"
    2. In Outgoing Mail Server box, enter:
    3. Check Use Authentication
    4. If necessary, add to the end of your username in the Username box
    5. Note: If you need to use multiple outgoing mail servers, you can uncheck the box that says Use only this server. This is useful if you are setting up multiple e-mail accounts, such as a personal one and a Willamette one.
    6. Click Continue
  7. On Account Summary page
    1. Click Create
