ASWU Senate
The ASWU senate is charged with the mission of representing the interests of the students at large. This can manifest itself in tangible projects or in policy changes and senators work to accomplish goals through a committee structure and individual projects.
Senate and ASWU have worked hard over the last few years to make campus better. Projects include:
- Reestablishing the Wallulah
- Starting a Campus Pub
- Establishing American Ethnic Studies as a Major
- Purchasing a stage for student organizations
- Willamette Watch
- Fee-increase for better club funding
- Jr/Sr Meal Plan
- Sustainable take-away food containers
- Campus Lighting Walk
- Blue Light Safety System
- ASWU Endowment
- Bringing Michael Moore to campus
- Collegiate Readership Program
- Extending Library Hours during finals
- The Willamette ShareCat
- Bringing back Glee
- ASWU Master Calendar
Standard responsibilities for senators are: attending the weekly meeting held at 7:00 pm on Thursday nights, participating in one committee, working on one small “pet project” of their own, posting a monthly update of their progress on the website, and meeting with the President of the senate on an individual basis twice a semester. Other constitutional responsibilities of the senate include passing the ASWU budget and approving committee appointments. All these together average 3 hours per week.
Senate meetings are open to the public. You are encouraged to come to a meeting or set one up individually with an ASWU Exec or your class senator.
If you have more specific questions please contact Matt Alex, ASWU VP of the Executive at: malex@willamette.edu.
