The
House of Hall Representatives welcomes you to our website! We're
under construction but will hopefully have a new website soon!

What
is the House of Hall Representatives (HHR)?
The
House of Hall Representatives, or HHR, serves as the umbrella governmental
organization for all Hall Councils (with the exception of apartment
organizations). Each Hall Council has one representative, which
is an elected or selected position depending on the hall council.
Over the past year, HHR has been restructuring itself to reflect
the changes in Residence Life and policy enforcement. Instead of
its typical role of program planning, the group is charged with
making larger residence hall related decisions that will affect
the entire community. It will also serve as a funding body for the
Hall Councils that need money for programs. Finally, it will serve
as a sounding board for issues halls may be facing.
The
HHR is led by a Prime Minister who does not have voting rights within
HHR but provides administrative support to the group. The PM will
run meetings, keep budget records and minutes for the group. This
is a paid position.
In
the fall semester, RA's will conduct the election process in their
halls, which will include the election of HHR Representatives. Packets
of information, including sign up sheets and constitutions, will
be provided. Elections should be completed within the first 2 weeks
of classes; RAs should talk about the importance of Hall Councils
and HHR at their first community meeting.

What
is a Hall Council?
Each
Hall Council helps to promote a positive living/learning environment
in each of the residence halls by working with university faculty,
staff and administration to coordinate and create educational, social,
recreational, cultural, and scholastic opportunities within the
residence halls. They also assist the Hall Director and Housing
Director on issues and policies that affect the community environment
of the residence halls. All residence hall students are eligible
to become a member of the Hall Council for each hall.
Some
of the events organized by the Hall Council include:
*
barbecues
* weekend programs
* trips and orientation
* participate in various intermural sports and events
* movies, music, dance, art shows
* educational and safety awareness programs
* games and sports
The
structure and function of Hall Councils can and will vary across
campus. As a result, the Area Coordinator for each area will provide
assistance in the annual formation process. Each hall has its own
constitution outlining the Hall Council positions, officer responsibilities,
and procedures for that community.

What
are hall dues?
An
important piece to living in the residence halls is programming
(a.k.a. fun activities within and between communities to foster
stronger bonds between students)! Programming fees are a way for
hall councils and HHR to provide activities for our residential
communities. Residential Fees are determined and reviewed yearly
by HHR and are voted on by majority vote after being passed through
hall councils.
The
break down of each fee per semester is as follows:
Residence
Halls:
$10
to HHR + $10 to hall council + $5 to RA + $5 to Community Fund +
$10 Judicial Fee = $40
Themed
Residence Halls (Terra, Shepard, Baxter, WISH):
Same
as Residence Halls above + $15 for theme hall activity fee = $45
Kaneko
Commons:
$50
to Kaneko Hall (for programming fund) + $10 Judicial Fee = $65
Apartments:
$6
to hall council + $4 to HHR + $2 to RA + $2.50 to community life
+ $10 Judicial Fee = $24.50
