Long Range Planning
In February of 1999, Willamette University’s Board of Trustees approved two recommendations I placed before them: first, that the University “initiate a comprehensive planning process of about ten months in duration, beginning in the summer of 1999 and ending no later than the spring semester 1999-2000,” and second, that “beginning [in] the fall [of] 2000 Willamette initiate planning for a five-year capital campaign whose focus would be to increase substantially the University endowment.”
At my request the Deans of the College of Liberal Arts, College of Law and Atkinson Graduate School of Management appointed Trustee, faculty, student, alumni, administrative and staff participants to a 30-person “Long Range Planning Committee.”
My charge to the Committee concerning the planning process was three-fold:
- “To develop long-term University goals” by considering carefully the question “What does Willamette University aspire to be as the 21st Century begins?”
- “To establish a ‘road map’ for achieving these goals” by considering carefully the question “How do we plan to meet these aspirations?”
- “To identify the necessary resources, both financial and human, to meet these goals” by asking, “What resources are needed in order for us to succeed?”
This page is the portal for faculty, students, staff, alumni and friends of Willamette to follow the progress of this important effort. It is also a mechanism for providing the critical feedback that will help define Willamette as we enter the 21st Century.
I thank you for your interest and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
M. Lee Pelton
President
