Our Programs

Master of Arts in Teaching

The Willamette University School of Education offers an outstanding Master of Arts in Teaching program to prepare teachers not only for the classroom, but for educational leadership. Our field-based program develops reflective professionals who are student-centered, collaborative, and sensitive to issues of diversity and culture. Students may pursue their degree in either our full-time program or our part-time Aspire program.

Administrator License Program

The New Directions in Educational Leadership is a practical, cutting-edge program designed to prepare candidates to respond positively, creatively, and proactively to the escalating demands of today's educational environment. The program is a 10-month program focused on instructional and ethical leadership, cultural competence and technology. New Directions is designed for educational leaders who want to develop the tools to lead, the skills to create, the courage to act, the wisdom to solve and the humanness to inspire. More information

Endorsements

The School of Education offers endorsements in 26 content areas. In the MAT program these endorsements include the specialty areas of art, music, physical education, reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Through the Center for Excellence in Teaching three endorsements are offered for in-service teachers: Reading, ESOL, and Special Education. More information

Continuing Teaching License

The Continuing Teaching License program consists of nine, one-credit courses that focus specifically on the ten competencies required by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. Candidates are guided through a system of self-evaluation, clarification of rules and regulations, goal setting, data gathering and presentation of their evidence of advanced abilities in teaching. This individually guided and personalized process is an effort to support and mentor teachers in the Oregon school systems. More information

Oregon Writing Project

The Oregon Writing Project (OWP) at Willamette supports excellence in the teaching of writing and the use of writing to learn in all subject areas through professional development and inservice opportunities for kindergarten through college-level teachers. Center for Excellence in Teaching

The Center for Excellence in Teaching (CET) began in the summer of 1999. The CET was initiated and designed to support the professional growth of excellent teachers in Oregon. Courses may be offered throughout the year on a variety of schedules, with a concentrated "summer institute" each June. Locations include Willamette University and public schools, as serves the needs and convenience of the participants. Credits are graduate-level and offered in the traditional quarter hour. Fine Arts Festival

The Fine Arts Festival is an annual event that brings local school children to the Willamette University campus to celebrate art, architecture, music, theater, and dance. More information

Oregon Technology in Education Network

The Oregon Technology in Education Network (OTEN) is a consortium of seven universities that supports technology integration in schools from kindergarten to university level. Through small grants to current students, first year teachers, and faculty OTEN funds innovative ideas for the classroom. Our students attend fall and spring OTEN conferences and use our technology library to get ideas and implement technology integrated instruction.
