Oregon Writing Project
The Oregon Writing Project at Willamette supports excellence in the teaching of writing at all educational levels and subjects through collaboration, education, and community involvement. As a National Writing Project site, we are dedicated to improving the teaching of writing and use of writing to learn in our community's schools. Through a professional development model, OWP at Willamette aims to build the leadership, programs, and research needed for teachers to help their students become successful writers and learners. There are four components to the OWP:
Summer Institute
The Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University invites you to participate in 20 days of writing and learning at the Summer Institute held each July in Salem. The Institute is modeled after the Bay Area Writing Project and offers professional growth opportunities for teachers kindergarten through college in all content areas who wish to develop their writing skills and improve effectiveness in teaching writing.
In-service
The Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University provides on-site inservice programs in the teaching of writing for K-12 schools throughout the mid-Willamette valley. Facilitated by qualified Teacher Consultants, these programs provide high quality professional development for teachers through a "teachers teaching teachers" model and disseminate best practices, with special attention to local area needs.
Continuity
Once you have participated in a Summer Institute, you become a Teacher Consultant and can decide where you want to go next. Do you want to participate in an Advanced Institute? Go to the Galapagos Islands? Train other teachers? Join our Technology Team? You can decide if you want to lead or serve in some way.
Youth and Community
Our Young Writers and Community programs take the proven methods of the Summer Institute, and our enthusiasm and skill, to our community. Join us in reaching out and raising writers.
