Community Action and Awareness Team
The Community Action and Awareness Team (CAAT) is a group of student
leaders who work to raise awareness about social and environmental
justice issues and to provide direct service opportunities both on and
off campus. These positions are typically hired in early September. The
CAAT is a group of five students that develop and implement issue based
opportunities such as the Hunger Banquet, Into the Streets, and stream
clean-up. The issues that the team focuses on each year depend on the
passion and voice of the current leadership group. Team members rotate
through leadership roles such a team captain, logistics, and ambiance.
The Long Term Project Coordinator facilitates service-based student
organizations together to collaborate in the planning and
implementation of projects that are large scale and geared to the
entire campus.
Take a Break Student Director
As the student director, you will be responsible for overall program
management. This position supervises the lead team, facilitates leader
trainings and meetings, manages the budget, coordinates marketing
including web site updates, and transportation reservations.
Take a Break Coordinator
As a member of the coordination team, you will be responsible for an
aspect of the program management. The positions are financial,
fundraising, logistics, and publicity.
Take a Break Trip Facilitator
As a trip facilitator, you will be responsible for facilitation of
pre-trip community meetings, leading discussions on group directed
reading, and coordinating all aspects of the spring break trip.
Typically each trip will have two trip facilitators who work
collaboratively on all trip aspects.
Jump Start: NSOCO Leader
Leaders of this program will assist new students in doing community
service in Salem and surrounding areas during the week -long Jump Start
program in mid-August. The team of five will lead evening activities
and reflection, encouraging students to bring meaning to their
experiences and their role in the Salem community. Successful NSOCO
leaders must enjoy doing service, facilitating reflection, engaging new
students, and sharing their WU experiences.
Bush Elementary Partnership Program
The coordinator will recruit tutor volunteers to meet in-class and
after-school volunteer needs at Bush School Elementary. The
responsibilities will include marketing, processing applications,
scheduling volunteer hours, and facilitating trainings and meetings.
The Tutor coordinator needs to be available to meet with staff at Bush
School Elementary during the day, occasionally observe the after-school
program, and be accessible to tutors.
Community Service Learning Intern
The Community Service Learning (CSL) Intern position is an opportunity
for previous CSL staff members to help achieve the goals of the Office
of Community Service Learning. This leadership position offers the
experience of working to strengthen relationships between CSL
leadership teams, serve as a resource to new staff, and to document
program implementation. Finally, the Intern works as a vital part of
the central staff, working on projects necessary to help the CSL reach
its goals.
