Development: Areas to Give

Library BooksWhy Does It Matter? The Willamette Fund

“I give back to Willamette because Willamette gave me the tools and confidence to compete on a international level with anyone out there,” says Mitch Taylor ’83, one of the top scientists at Intel Corporation. Taylor supports The Willamette Fund because, as he says, “I want to provide opportunities for current students that were available to me when I was a student.”

He encourages alumni and friends to talk with their employers about the availability of matching gift programs. Through his matching gift arrangement with Intel, Taylor is able to double or even triple the size of his donation. “All it usually takes is signing one piece of paper and yet it provides s significant benefit to the University.

Computer KeyboardNo other vehicle has a more wide-reaching impact on Willamette’s students than The Willamette Fund. From the books in our library to computers in our laboratories, The Fund allows Willamette to meet vital operating costs, seize new opportunities and chart a confident course for our future. To put the importance of The Willamette Fund in perspective, it would take an additional $24 million in endowment to replace the revenues The Fund gifts provide the University each year.

“What I took away from Willamette was a knowledge of experimental methodology. I use what I learned at Willamette every day. I think the best way to show my appreciation for that experience is to give something back.” – Mitch Taylor ‘83
