Security
& Safety Tips
Willamette
is a great place and we don't have too much
trouble with theft or damage in the residence
halls, but it would be naïve to think
that it can't happen to you. What can you
do to protect yourself?
-
The
most important step is the simplest one:
Never leave your room unlocked.
-
Put
a permanent identification label on your
computer. Engraving the case is one of the
best ways to do this.
-
-
In
some locations, a security cable system
will work. Just loop the cable through the
desk or table legs in a way that cable can't
be removed without busting up the furniture.
-
If
you have a laptop computer and you carry
it around campus, keep it with you at all
times - don't leave it unattended!
- Don't
take your laptop with you to Goudy Commons - there
are no safe places to lock it up there, only unsecure
cubby holes to which anyone who comes into the
building has access.
- If
you have a car, don't leave your laptop visible
inside the car while it is parked on campus. Place
it in the trunk, or take it with you.
