Mac OSX 10.4 Mail (Apple Mail 2.1)

This document will help you configure the Apple Mail program for use with your Willamette University email address. This covers the Apple 2.1 mail client included with OSX 10.4

1. Start your Mail program.
2. If this is the first time you’ve use Apple Mail you will see the New Account page. Simply click continue and follow the directions below. If you have an email account previously set up you can add the Willamette account. Click on Mail (in the top menu), choose preferences. From there click on Accounts, then click the Add (the + sign) button.
   1. On the General Information page set the following options.
      1. For Account Type choose IMAP.
      2. Next to Account Description type Willamette Email (or anything you want, it doesn’t matter).
      3. In the Full Name field enter your full name as you like it to appear.
      4. In the Email Address field type in your Willamette email address (ex. username@willamette.edu)
      5. Click Continue.
   2. On the Incoming Mail Server page.
      1. In the Incoming Mail Server field type mail.willamette.edu.
      2. In the Username field type your Willamette username (it’s the first part of your email address before the @ symbol)
      3. In the Password field type your password. (you can also leave this black, this will prompt you for your password every time you check your mail, a much more secure method).
      4. Click Continue
   3. On the Incoming Mail Security page.
      1. Check the box marked Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
      2. For the Authentication, choose Password.
      3. Click Continue.
   4. On the Outgoing Mail Server page.
      1. In the Outgoing Mail Server field, type smtp.willamette.edu.
      2. Check the box marked Use Authentication.
         1. In the User Name field type your Willamette username.
         2. In the Password filed type your Willamette password.
         3. Click Continue
   5. On the Account Summary page, click continue.
   6. On the Conclusion page, click done. Congratulations, your Apple Mail program should now be set up to receive and send your Willamette University Email
