This document contains the settings you will need to configure an email client to send and receive Willamette email.

These instructions assume that you already have the appropriate hardware and software installed and properly configured, and that you know what you are doing.

Server Settings:

  • Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)
    • For all students, staff, & faculty:
        mail.willamette.edu
  • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)*
    • On campus: smtp.willamette.edu
    • Off campus, using Willamette's dial-up service: smtp.willamette.edu
    • Off campus, using an Internet Service Provider (ISP): use the SMTP server provided by your ISP
  • News Server (NNTP)
    • news.willamette.edu
  • Directory Server (LDAP) - not available to off-campus users
    • ldap.willamette.edu
    • search root: o=willamette.edu

*Note: If you are off campus, using an Internet Service Provider such as AOL, Earthlink, AT&T, etc., then you will need to use the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server supplied by the Internet Service Provider. This information can usually be found on the provider's website, in their documentation, or by contacting their customer service.
