Network
Home Directory - Mac OS 8.x/9.x
Printable Version
Mapping
your network drive to the desktop
Note:
This method cannot be used from ResNet (because there are
no AppleTalk Zones available on ResNet). Mac users on ResNet
should use their web browser to FTP.
- Select
Chooser from the
menu.
- In
the Chooser window:
- Select
the AppleShare icon
- AppleTalk
Zones:
- Select
University Services
- Select
a file server:
- For
example, select Homes, to connect to your Willamette
home directory or SOFTSERV to connect to the
Macintosh file server maintained by WITS.
- To
connect to your network home directory, select Registered
User and enter your email name and password. Other shared
resources will have their own user names and passwords that
are issued by the owners of those resources.
Some
file servers (such as SOFTSERV) allow you to connect
as Guest, with limited privileges.
- Select
the items you want to use (some file servers will have a
list of shared folders; each resource may have different
access privileges).
If
you want to reconnect at startup, check the box next to
the item you selected.
Once
connected, you'll see an icon on your desktop for the
item you selected in step four.
