Getting Started
Connecting to the wireless network consists of the following steps:
If your computer does not have a built-in wireless card, then you will need to install an external wireless card. WITS recommends (and the Willamette Bookstore carries) ORiNOCO wireless cards for laptop computers. Step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the ORiNOCO wireless card can be found at http://www.willamette.edu/wits/resources/docs/network/wireless/orinoco.htm.
If you choose to go with another brand, it must be 802.11b compatible, and you should follow the installation and setup instructions that come with the card. It is your responsibility to have the card installed and configured correctly.
When you configure your wireless card for Willamette's network, you will be asked to supply a Network Name or SSID. This should be BlitzNet. If you do not enter this information correctly, your wireless connection will not work!
Configuring Windows 98/Me
The instructions in the following sections cover the Windows 98/Me system properties, the network settings, and network adapter settings. Read all of the instructions carefully before making any changes. Have your Windows 98/Me CD-ROM handy; some installation procedures may require it. You must be logged in as Administrator to alter your network settings. Once you have completed making the necessary changes, you will be prompted to restart Windows. The changes will not take effect until you have done so.
