Sending and Receiving Attached Files

Pine 4.21

Document #113

Date: 03/03

Abstract: This document covers how to attach files to a Pine mail message. Attached documents can be more Pine mail, a word processor document, or even an image, sound, program, or movie. Familiarity with the use of Pine Document #110 and with transferring files between a home directory and a personal computer is assumed. Familiarity with saving Pine documents as a file (Document #114) is helpful.

Introduction: The attachment feature is the package service of electronic mail in that it allows you to send more than just a letter. Once you have written a "cover letter" you can attach almost anything that you can have in your network home directory.

NOTE: If the person receiving your mail is not using the Pine program (or another mail program that supports the "MIME" format) your attachment may become text only. This will render useless anything more complex than a simple written document, so be sure to check with the receiver before sending an attachment.
