Abstract:
This document covers how to access an attachment you receive as part of an e-mail
message. Attached documents can be more Pine mail, a word processor document,
or even an image, sound, program, or movie. Familiarity with the use of Pine Document
#110 and with transferring files between a home
directory and a personal computer is assumed. Familiarity with saving Pine
documents as a file (Document #114) is helpful.
Receiving an
Attachment
If you receive a mail message with an attachment you will see something similar
to the following in the Message Text screen:

From: juser@place.edu
To: Marvin Martian <mmartian@willamette.edu>
Parts/attachments:
1 Shown 25 lines Text
2 28 KB Application, "Word 97 file"
Part 1 is always
the message itself in standard mail format (text). The attachments, starting
at Part 2, will be listed with their size, type, and any short description entered
by the sender.
- If the attachment
is in text format then it can be read on the screen if desired, otherwise
you will have to save the file to your home directory for export to your personal
computer. Either way, type > for "ViewAttch"
You will see the Attachment Index.
- For non-text
attachments:
- Select
the attachment number.
- Press S
for Save.
- You will
be prompted with "Copy attachment to file in home directory: filename.doc".
- Edit or
accept the default name, then press <Enter> or <return>.
The attachment will be saved in your home directory.
- Press
< to return to the message.
- For plain-text
attachments:
- Select
the attachment number.
- Press <Enter>
or <return>to view the attached file.
- Press <
to return to the Attachment Index.
- Press
< to return to the message.
