Abstract: Pine is an electronic mail program on the campus network. Newsgroups are discussion groups that exist for topics of interest to Willamette users. This document explains how to use Pine to subscribe to, read, and post to electronic newsgroups. Familiarity with logging into your account and with using Pine (Document #110) is assumed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As of May 2000, only local newsgroups are available to Pine users. To read the world-wide newsgroups, WITS recommends Netscape Communicator. Refer to the Netscape Communicator Help Documents for more information.

Introduction
Newsgroups are discussion forums focused on a particular topic, course, or other area of common interest. Willamette newsgroups are not moderated and can be accessed by anyone with a Willamette network account.
