Searching for and Subscribing to a Newsgroup
You have to subscribe to a newsgroup before you can read from it. Subscribing doesn't cost any money; it simply means that you wish to see the articles in the newsgroup.

• Enter the Pine Mail environment.
• At the Main Menu type L for Folder List.
• Press <space> to move to the News-Collection section.
  • You will then see a list of all the newsgroups you are subscribed to (there are a few Willamette newsgroups in your account by default).
• Type A for Subscribe.
  • You will be prompted with "Enter newsgroup name (or partial name to get a list):"
• From this point you have two options for subscribing to a newsgroup:
• If you know the name of the newsgroup:
  • Type the name and press <Enter> or <return> to subscribe.

    The newsgroup will be added to your news collection list.

• If you want to search the list of newsgroups:
  • Type ^T.
  • Type W for Where is
  • Enter a keyword and press <Enter> or <return>.

    If one or more newsgroups contain the keyword then they will be displayed in a list. If no matches are found the entire Usenet newsgroup list will be displayed.

• Use the arrow keys to select the group you want and type S to Subscribe.
  • You will be returned to the previous screen.
• To complete the subscription request, press <Enter> or <return>.

Entering and Reading Newsgroups

• Enter the Pine Mail environment.
• At the Main Menu type L for Folder List.
• Press <space> to move to the News-Collection section.
  • You will then see a list of all the newsgroups you are subscribed to.
• Use the arrow keys to highlight the group you wish to read and press <Enter> or <return>.
  • The items in the newsgroup will appear as if they had been mailed to you directly.
• You can use normal Pine commands to read, save, export, or delete files. You can use the forward option to send a newspost to a friend. You can also reply as you would in Pine - see below for details of this process.

Unsubscribing from a Newsgroup

• From the News-Collection section, use the arrow keys to highlight the group.
• Type D.
  • You will be prompted with "Really unsubscribe from "newsgroup name"?
• Type Y to unsubscribe.
