Abstract: This quick reference covers the most commonly used commands in version 4.21. This guide introduces version 4.21 and covers many of its features. Familiarity with using Telnet to log into Pine is assumed.

To access Pine:

  1. Start a Telnet session and log in with your Willamette username and password.
  2. At the prompt, type pine in all lower-case letters (if you see a menu, you can just type pi).
  3. Press <Enter> or <return>.
  4. At the Pine main menu, you will be asked to enter your Willamette username and password a second time.
  5. Once you've logged into Pine, you can execute commands by pressing the indicated key on the keyboard.
    Press and hold <Ctrl> or <control> for commands preceded by "^".
  6. Use the <arrow> keys to select items on the screen.
    Press the <Enter> or <return> key to execute a selected item.

CONFIGURE A SENT MAIL FOLDER 

  1. From the Pine Main Menu, press S (Setup).
  2. Press C (Config).
  3. Select default-fcc.
  4. Press A (Add Value) or C (Change Value).
  5. Type the name of the folder you want to use for sent mail (e.g., sent-mail).
  6. Press <Enter> or <return>.
  7. Press E (Exit Setup).
  8. Press Y to accept the changes (or N to abandon the changes).
