Step 1: Login
to H: Drive
Your computer will now have access to a new drive at H:, which is your file area on your network account. Anything stored on the H: drive will be usable when you are logged in to the server.
Step 2 - Write
the Document
Using your word processor, type or open the document you want to send through
e-mail. Remember that you cannot send graphics, tables, underlines, bold, italics,
or other special formats through e-mail. If your document contains any of these,
they will not be present (or will be reduced to plain text) when you send the
document as an e-mail message. Also, tabs will appear very different both in
Pine and in your receiver's e-mail, so you should avoid using them.
Step 3 - Export
the Document to the H: Drive
Most word processors have a "Save As" option available under the File menu.
Use this to save the document as "Text Only" or "DOS text", whichever is available.
Be sure to change to the H: drive, or use "H:\filename" when saving (substitute
anything for "filename", but do not use any spaces or unusual characters).
WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS users must use a special command to create the text file:
After the file is exported, you can repeat this step for other documents you wish to mail. When you are finished, exit your word processor.
Step 4 - Login
to E-mail and Send your Document via Pine
Start Telnet and log in as you normally would. Run Pine and start composing
your message. When you reach the point where you want to insert the word processor
text:
Step 5 - Delete
your Document from the Network
If you will not need to send the document again, it is a good idea to remove
it from the network to save space. Quit Telnet, then use either DOS or the Windows
File Manager to delete your file from the H: drive.
