Alternative SSH Client Software

Though common to other Operating Systems, Microsoft Windows does not include SSH client software. Consequently, all university computers running MS Windows have third-party SSH client software installed on them.

If you use Windows on your own computer, you will need to install SSH client software in order to access hydra (hydra.willamette.edu), our multi-user shell access system which is also the home of PINE. There are many free, open source, and commercial SSH client software packages. And, since SSH is an open standard, you may use any standardized client you choose.

Whichever client you choose, be sure to keep it up-to-date as security vulnerabilities are periodically fixed. One of the most popular clients for MS Windows is PuTTY.
