Symantec AntiVirus Updates for Staff/Faculty computers.
There has been an update to the Symantec Antivirus program that Willamette University provides to Faculty and Staff. It is vital that everyone using our anti-virus software get this update.
This update can be delivered to you remotely in Most cases. If your computer is properly set up.
Windows XP users: in order to receive these updates your computer needs to be modified to allow our AntiVirus Server to connect to it.
- Download the file on this here (right-click on the file and choose the Save Link As.. option.: firewall.reg
- Be sure to save it to a place you can find (such as your desktop).
- Once the file is on your desktop (or other handy spot), double-click the firewall.reg file.
- If you get a notice from Windows that “The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?” Click Run.
- You will see a notice from the Registry Editor “Are you sure you want to add the information …. To the registry” Click Yes.
- Another notice from the Registry Editor will tell you that “Information in… has been successfully entered into the registry Click OK.
- Your computer is now able to receive updates to the Symantec AV software remotely from our server.
Once you have updated your registry, the Symantec AV server will be able to deliver the latest version of the software. No more intervention is required by you.
