Supervising Teachers: Benefits

  • Willamette University athletic event tickets are available to supervising teachers. Tickets must be picked up the week before the game. Go to or call the Athletic Department Ticket Office at 503-370-6114 for tickets, and visit www.willamette.edu/athletics for schedules of games.
  • Willamette University library passes are available at the Hatfield Library at 503-370-6312. Be sure to bring your I.D. Arrange with your Willamette University Strand Coordinator prior to going to the library.
  • Passes to the Hatfield Museum of Art are also available.
  • Professional development credit is available.

Payment

All payments to supervising teachers are split if there are two or more supervising teachers responsible for a student teacher.

Professional Development Credit

There are three options for professional development credit.

  1. School site supervisors who have a Willamette University student teacher for the Spring Semester are eligible for 1 quarter-hour credit from the WU Center for Excellence in Teaching (CET) for any course.
  2. School site supervisors for practicum and student teaching can get professional development units using the Salem-Keizer School District EPIC form or by arrangement with other school districts.
  3. School site supervisors who have a Willamette University student teacher for the Spring Semester can also get credit for supervising a student teacher and attending our meetings by enrolling in the School Partner Workshop:

Requirements

  • Attend all school partner meetings
  • Complete the following written assignment

Written Assignment

Write a description of one collaborative, inquiry/observation cycle that you completed with your student teacher. Include information about the pre-conference, observation/data collection, and post-conference. Attach copies of the data gathered and the observation/conference notes.

Write a reflection on the process. Focus on the specific cycle described or on the process of supervision in general. Perhaps address the following questions:

  • How did the process inform your own teaching?
  • What did you learn about mentoring a student teacher?
  • Submit the written assignment at the last School Partner workshop.
