Biography
Nora Hyman serves as an Admission Counselor for the College of Arts & Sciences. In her role, Nora works closely with students from the San Francisco Bay Area as she guides them through the first steps of their admissions process through to enrollment.
Nora received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology with a focus on marine social science from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. During her undergraduate degree, Nora served as an Admission Tour Guide and when she moved to Portland in 2022, she realized her passion for higher education and began working for Willamette University. In addition to her work, Nora is a yoga teacher, scuba diver, musician, and seamstress. She looks forward to connecting with you, and wishes you the best of luck!
Why Willamette?
I feel proud to represent Willamette as a premier liberal arts institution in the Pacific Northwest. I strongly believe that a liberal arts education that is student-centered, interdisciplinary and experiential in its programming is the way to go (at least, it was for me). I am inspired by Willamette’s mission of inspiring a collective mindset, community service, and leadership.
Favorite High School or College Class or Subject?
My favorite college course was Introduction to Geology. Turns out, I had no ideas how rocks were formed!
Something You Learned in College You Still Use?
I learned how to balance my various interests and passions and create spaces to share these hobbies with others.
Memorable/Favorite High School or College Co- Curricular Activity
One of the most memorable experiences I had in college was when I received NASA funding to live on a remote rock off the coast of Maine for a month.
Proudest Accomplishment to Date
Becoming a yoga teacher.
Favorite Book
Right now, it is 100% the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. Trust me -- you'll thank me later.
