Biography

My academic department page

How do I incorporate sustainability, justice, and/or equity into the courses I teach?

I teach Introduction to Economic Inquiry, Microeconomic Theory, Environmental Economics, and Advanced Topics in Economics: Economics of Sustainability.  All four of these courses explore themes of inequality, discrimination, and environmental degradation to some extent.  In all four, perspectives from multiple theoretical traditions are used to explore whether capitalism is or can be adapted to become a sustainable and fair economic system.

How does my research advance sustainability, justice and/or equity?

Most of my recent work has focused on developing and implementing a novel economics major that better engages students with these issues.  I am interested in investigating experiments with alternative (to capitalism) economic systems.  I have also done research related to the impact of trade relationships on international environmental agreements, sustainability measures and indicators, and valuation of ecosystem services and environmental amenities.
