Upcoming online performance: In Concert with Jean-David Coen • Sunday, Nov 15, 4:00 pm
To our dear patrons and friends of the series –To our dear patrons and friends of the series –
It gives me the greatest pleasure to announce the details of our 2021- 22 season. All musical series around the world have anxiously waited for the return of in-person concerts; starting up the vast machinery of tours and travelling the world for our musical colleagues has proven to be both a joyous and great challenge.
As director of the series I would like to express our thanks to Willamette University's administration, and its reopening committee for doing its utmost to keep the campus community safe during the past year. They will continue to refine the protocols for how we will gather safely together moving forward.
The 1st concert of the season will feature the brilliant Corvallis based violinist Anthea Kreston on Wednesday October 22,7:30 P.M.
She has recently returned from a multi- year stint in Germany as a member of the renowned
Artemis String Quartet.
The program we will perform features the great Beethoven C minor Sonata for Violin and Piano, 3 Romances for Violin and Piano of Clara Schumann, concluding with the exquisite Brahms A major Sonata for piano and violin.
As with many creative artists during the past year Anthea continued to reach out, virtually, to continue to keep our spirits elevated.
Please visit the link below, to her continuing blog on " Slipped Disc" and a glimpse of her artistry in a fabulous performance of the "Appalachian Waltz" by Mark O'Connor.
Our second concert brings Pulitzer Award winning composer Caroline Shaw to our campus for a small residency starting January 31, with the concluding
concert ,Wednesday Feb.2. at &30.Pm
We are both fortunate and proud to announce that in collaboration with New Music at Willamette there will be a world premiere of a work commissioned for our Zeller Chair in Dramatic Vocal Arts, Katherine Skovira.
The program surrounding the world premiere will involve many musicians: students, faculty, artist associates, and guest artists, from solo unaccompanied works to string quartet and Willamette choirs.
Specific works will include the Cantata " to the hands", "Gustave le Grey" "Valencia" "Manus Tua",and more. Guest artists will include The Delgani String Quartet,
cellist Valdine Mishkin, and The Salem String Quartet.
Additional details about the residency will be forthcoming ; the opportunity for one of the world's great composers to work with our students and also compose for our faculty and community is reason to celebrate.
Visit the links below to hear Caroline's music, and the article from Atlantic Monthly which speaks to her place in the musical world.
The last concert of the season Wed April 20 2022, brings back one of the DAS dearest friends, pianist Bryan Pezzone, in collaboration with Francois Houle, a clarinetist of supremely varied talents.
These 2 musicians epitomize improvisational brilliance, along with genre defying creativity. An introduction to François, and his artistry can also be found below.
We wish a safe, healthy and rejuvenating summer to all, It is deserved, as is the need for us to gather to rejoice
in music together again!
