    Peer Tutor Program

Tutoring takes place in a central space called the Kaneko Learning Center (KLC). Each student is assigned a Student Academic Mentor (SAM) who holds five hours of office time a week and is available by appointment. SAMs are the first stop for ASP students to practice their English, receive assistance with assignments, or just to have someone to connect with and have fun.  SAMs are trained and knowledgeable about all things Willamette, so they are excellent resources for all students.

New tutors are generally recruited during spring semester. The peer tutors work closely with faculty members to provide a positive and supportive learning environment for students. The peer tutors meet regularly with students outside of class in small groups or one-on-one to help students understand class content and develop better academic English skills.

Willamette students interested in being a Student Academic Mentor are encouraged to email Assistant Director Alan Lane (alane@willamette.edu) for more information.
