Chemistry classroom experiment with Legos

Chemistry is a powerful way to understand the world around us.

Programs Offered: Major, Minor

At Willamette, chemistry courses challenge students to go beyond the required competencies — and to grow as critical thinkers and effective problem-solvers who understand the place of chemistry in human affairs.

Faculty members from Willamette’s chemistry department have earned the Oregon Professor of the Year award three times. These dedicated teacher-scholars have built more than a reputation for inspiring students — they’ve founded a rigorous, close-knit, student-centered learning community that spans generations.

Upon graduation, chemistry students are well prepared for graduate school and employment in business or industry. Approved by the American Chemical Society, Willamette’s chemistry major program focuses on a strong foundational education in five principal areas: analytical, inorganic, organic, biochemistry, and physical chemistry.
