Biography

Holly Hughes is a writer and performer. Her work has been presented internationally at venues such as The Drill Hall in London, the Walker Art Center, Yale Rep and numerous community spaces, universities and theatres. Five of her scripts are included in Clit Notes: A Sapphic Sampler, from Grove. She is also the co-editor of the Lambda Book Award winning collection: O Solo Homo, and co-editor of two forthcoming collections: Memories of the Revolution and Animal Acts: Performing Species Today. She incited the ire of the religious right in the 1990s as one of the “NEA Four.” She’s also received two Village Voice Obie awards, funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, Creative Capital’s MAP fund, the Ford Foundation and was a 2010 Guggenheim Fellow. She is a professor at the University of Michigan, where she directs the BFA in Performance.
