Biography

Cynthia White is a freelance stage director and dramaturg, as well as a teacher of acting and directing, and an arts administrator. Locally, she has directed with Taproot Theatre, The Village Theatre, CenterStage Theatre and Golden Fish Theatre, as well as with UW's PATP program and Cornish College of the Arts. Nationally, Cynthia White has worked with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Pioneer Theatre Company, the Marin Shakespeare Company, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where she was Associate Director and Director of Play Development. Based in Seattle.

Her Directing Credits include: Emma’s Child, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Toys in the Attic, The Voice in the Prairie, Woman in Mind, Ballerina for Oregon Shakespeare Festival; Shadowlands for Pioneer Theatre Company; A Streetcar Named Desire for the Utah Shakespearean Festival; Our Town, Twelfth Night for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival; The Tempest, Cymbeline for Virginia Shakespeare Festival, Merry Wives of Windsor, A Touch of the Poet for Idaho Shakespeare Festival; Blithe Spirit, Pack of Lies for Portland Repertory Theatre; Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, All My Sons, Measure for Measure for The Globe of the Great Southwest; Robin Hood – The Legend Continues, Nicholas Nickleby The Musical, Enchanted April, Rumors at CenterStage Theatre.

Cynthia White has been an Assistant Professor, University of Wisconsin, Theatre & Drama Department, Madison WI; and a Guest Lecturer and Director, Pacific Lutheran University, Theatre and Drama Department, Tacoma, WA.

Cynthia White has an MFA in Directing from Southern Methodist University, (Bob Hope Award for Outstanding Achievement) and a BA in Theatre Arts from Lawrence University, (Theodore F. Cloak Award) She is a member of Actors Equity Union and SDC, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Union.
