Biography

Maegan Parker Brooks is an Associate Professor of Civic Communication & Media and American Ethnic Studies at Willamette University. Maegan also serves as Chair of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee in the College of Arts and Sciences and she Directs the Find Your Voice project. Over the years, Maegan has worked as a program coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of Pierce County, a Big Sister for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Dane County, and, most recently, as a founding organizer for the Sunflower County Film Academy in the Mississippi Delta. Maegan grew up in Washington state, graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Puget Sound; she went on to earn a Master's Degree and a PhD in Rhetoric, Politics, and Culture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Now in her sixth year at Willamette University, Maegan is a teacher-scholar who works at the intersections of rhetoric, race, and public memory. She is passionate about broadly sharing her scholarship through public-facing forms, including K-12 curricula, websites, a children’s book, a cartoon animation, newspaper articles, and a biography written for a popular audience
