Biography
Dr. Kristen Gore was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina. She attended North Carolina State University on an Air Force ROTC scholarship and graduated in 2009 with dual degrees in meteorology and statistics. In 2014, Dr. Gore received her Ph.D. in Statistics from Columbia University in New York and moved to Corvallis, Oregon, to join HP as a statistician.
While at NC State, she performed air quality research for the North Carolina Department of the Environment and Natural Resources Division of Air Quality. Her research focused on evaluating the impact of air quality legislation in North Carolina on tropospheric ozone and particulate matter concentrations. She also worked at the State Climate Office of North Carolina as an environmental meteorologist, where she developed models that forecasted the probability of a spring freeze in North Carolina.
At Columbia University, Dr. Gore’s love for teaching was sparked. She taught undergraduate statistics courses for three years. She received the Howard Levene Outstanding Teaching Award in 2012 and her certification in Collaborative Teaching and Technology from the Columbia University Teaching Center in 2014.
Dr. Gore comes to Willamette from HP Inc. in Corvallis, Oregon where she provided technical leadership to many different organizations and drove key elements of the Print and Personal Systems quality systems. In her most recent role as the statistical data strategy lead for the Microfluidics Technology and Operations organization, she created a comprehensive manufacturing sampling strategy that optimized cost and quality for new technology platforms. Gore served as a primary content developer and statistics instructor for the broader company, regularly teaching a variety of courses to interdisciplinary audiences around the world.
In addition to teaching, Gore has a long-standing passion in STEM outreach. Since 2015, one of her favorite activities has been serving as a LEGO robotics volunteer for local K-2 students. She also conducts STEM lessons for middle school students in her hometown annually. Gore looks forward to continuing to develop students’ interest and appreciation for real-world STEM applications at Willamette University.
In her free time, Dr. Gore enjoys spending time with her husband and furbabies. She also enjoys playing music (piano, guitar, and drums), watching standup comedy shows, and going to concerts.
